It appears crunch time is nearing for Senate Republicans who want to repeal and replace key parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). While there is no official deadline to pass legislation that would alter the ACA, the artificial deadline is the end of July.

Democrats could literally be heard singing “Na, Na, Na, Na, Hey, Hey, Goodbye” after House Republicans passed the American Health Care Act (ACA), a bill that aims to repeal and replace much of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Why the heck would Democrats be singing this song since Republicans are one step closer to getting rid of their signature law? It turns out they were taunting House Republicans who they think won’t get reelected now that they voted to pass the AHCA.

The Senate needed 51 votes to pass the Restoring Americans' Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act of 2015 (HR 3762), a budget reconciliation bill which would repeal several key parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). They got 52 when they voted on December 3rd. The bill, which was previously passed by the House of Representatives (House), was approved by the Senate with some amendments. That means the bill will have to go back to the House for another vote, where most expect it will be passed.

There’s an interesting story developing in Texas which may have a carryover effect to other states. The Texas House of Representatives and Senate have approved House Bill 1514, which would require the letters “QHP” to be included on ID cards of any health plan purchased through the Exchange. QHP, which stands for Qualified Health Plan, would help doctors and medical providers understand the type of coverage a patient has prior to providing any services.

The House of Representatives, controlled by the Republican Party, voted earlier this month to delay the Individual Mandate by one year. It voted 251-174 in favor of delaying the requirement for most individuals to obtain health insurance until January 1, 2015.
This marks the 38th time that the House has tried to repeal or scale back the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
